Architecture, technology and professional dialogue
The incorporation of new digital tools is transforming many of the processes involved in architecture. Artificial intelligence, 3D visualisation and virtual reality expand the possibilities for representation and analysis, but they also raise questions about how to use them without losing what remains essential to the project: judgement, experience and the ability to understand each place.
With these questions as a starting point, Porcelanosa Alicante brought together industry professionals on 20 November 2025 for a networking event dedicated to exploring the relationship between technology, architecture and smart construction.
Pepe Giner took part in the event alongside Francesc Boscà and Kevin Gimenez, architects at Pepe Giner Arquitectos. The presence of several members of the studio made it possible to share the session from complementary generational and professional perspectives, in a setting designed to encourage open exchange between architecture studios, designers and other industry professionals.
The session addressed the impact of tools such as artificial intelligence applied to design, three-dimensional visualisation, virtual reality and new digital planning systems. Rather than considering them as an end in themselves, the discussion provided an opportunity to reflect on their ability to become part of working processes and improve specific stages of a project.
For architecture, technology is not new territory. The discipline has always evolved alongside the technical, construction and graphic changes of each era. What is particularly significant today is the speed at which these tools are being incorporated into everyday practice and the need to learn how to use them from a critical perspective.
At the studio, we understand these resources as instruments capable of complementing the architectural process. They can help visualise alternatives, communicate a proposal more effectively, explore solutions or make certain stages of the work more efficient, but architecture continues to depend on decisions that require sensitivity, technical knowledge and a precise reading of the context.
The value of this type of event lies precisely in the conversation. Faced with a technological transformation that affects the profession across the board, sharing experiences helps us better understand which tools are proving useful, what their limitations are and how they can be integrated into design processes without replacing architectural thinking.
Architecture and technology inevitably move forward together. The challenge is to incorporate new possibilities without confusing the tool with the objective: to continue designing spaces capable of responding to the place, the people and the specific conditions of each project.
We would like to thank Porcelanosa Alicante for the invitation and for creating a space in which different professionals were able to share experiences and reflect together on a transformation that is already part of the present of our profession.
