A Stepped House in the Mediterranean Landscape<\/p>\n
The TRD residence is located on the coast of Benissa, Alicante, on a steeply sloping plot surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and opening out towards the sea and the Pe\u00f1\u00f3n de Ifach.<\/p>\n
The topography is the starting point of the project. Rather than imposing a single volume on the hillside, the house is broken down into a series of stepped volumes that follow the natural descent of the terrain. These successive elements shift in relation to one another and adapt to the different levels, establishing a closer relationship with the landscape while reducing the visual impact of the architecture on the hillside.<\/p>\n
The house is thus conceived as a sequence of levels.<\/p>\n
The different volumes project outwards and recede along the slope, creating terraces, patios and transitional spaces that shape the journey through the house. This interplay of volumes allows each floor to establish its own relationship with the outdoors, while orienting the main living spaces towards the horizon.<\/p>\n
At the main level, the architecture opens fully onto the landscape. The living areas extend onto a large terrace and a linear swimming pool that projects towards the sea. The water introduces a new horizontal plane across the slope and reinforces the house\u2019s role as a viewing platform. From here, the architecture recedes into the background, allowing the gaze to travel across the vegetation towards the Mediterranean Sea and the silhouette of the Pe\u00f1\u00f3n de Ifach.<\/p>\n
Materiality plays a key role in expressing the relationship between the house and its setting.<\/p>\n
The exposed concrete volumes, with their precise geometry and abstract character, contrast with the natural stone masonry walls that anchor the house to the terrain. These walls reinterpret the traditional dry-stone walls historically used to create agricultural terraces throughout the Marina Alta region. A deeply rooted local approach to shaping the land is thus reimagined through contemporary architecture.<\/p>\n
Concrete and stone establish a dialogue between abstraction and tradition, between what is built and what already exists. The textures and tones of both materials blend with the earth and vegetation, while the Mediterranean light transforms their appearance throughout the day, accentuating the depth of the volumes and the shadows cast by the architecture itself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
